Iliff Library Catalog and Account Guide

Tips and Tricks for using the Library Catalog

Journal Coverage Dates

Sometimes when searching, it may seem like we don't have access to an item you need. We have a few troubleshooting tips to try before letting the panic set in.

Check the coverage date. We strive to make sure that our catalog reflects the correct coverage dates for each of our journals.

If you are unable to access an article, take a look at the coverage dates to see if it falls within our access range. If it's outside our coverage dates, we will not have access.

Incorrect Citations

Sometimes when searching for an article in the catalog, the system pulls up the incorrect citation. The catalog will show where we could have access, but it may lead you to a dead end.

When this happens, follow these steps.

  1. Search for your article title in Google Scholar to confirm the citation information
  2. Search for the journal title that the article is in
  3. Confirm the coverage dates and see whether or not it is an Iliff accessible material (look for the Iliff icon)
  4. Access the journal and navigate to the correct issue and then article

Iliff Does Not Have Access

If it turns out Iliff does not have access to a item, don't give up! We still have a few options.

  1. Check to see if DU owns the item. If you are able to, you can visit the DU Library (Anderson Academic Commons) and access electronic materials via their guest computers. You also have access to their physical materials
  2. Make an Interlibrary Loan (ILL) Request
  3. Submit a Suggest a Purchase to see if it possible for Iliff to buy the item in question.

I'm out of state, are there other options to visit libraries near me?
Yes! Iliff is also a member of the American Theological Library Association (ATLA). This allows Iliffians to have guest privileges at other ATLA libraries; however, like DU, you have to physically visit their location. Check the map below to see if there is one close to you.

Don't forget that your local public libraries are an option as well. Public libraries often have other interlibrary loan options and partnerships than academic libraries and these could benefit you in your research.
